In between, quieter moments of furtive eye contact among the women of the lower rungs hint at brewing insurrections, giving you just enough hope to keep watching - even if it’s through your fingers. The first ritualized rape of Moss’ defiant handmaid Offred is harrowing in its banality the public hangings and ceremonial stonings a haunting part of the show’s visual imprint. Elisabeth Moss carries the series alongside a brilliant supporting cast (especially Ann Dowd as handmaid overseer Aunt Lydia and Yvonne Strahovski as an elite commander’s wife), even as it extends beyond Atwood’s original vision. The searing prescience of Margaret Atwood’s 1985 novel - a dystopian nightmare in which the United States has become a totalitarian theocracy, its remaining fertile women enslaved to bear children for the ruling class - comes all too vividly to life in this dark, nail-bitingly tense adaptation for Hulu. Image Credit: Bbc America/Kobal/Shutterstock We’re sorry that David Fincher’s American version was ixnayed by HBO we’re even sorrier that the original show has never been officially shown on those shores. Featuring creepy sadistic assassins, a diverse cast of every-men and -women heroes, and a strong contender for the single most badass antisocial female character ever to grace the small-screen (we bow before you, Fiona O’Shaughnessy), the series started out weird and only proceeded to get weirder during its second season - and better. And when the members of an Internet chat forum devoted to the comic come across the last remaining copy … well, let’s just say there are people in power who’d do anything to make sure all traces of it are erased. “Who is Jessica Hyde?” There are paranoid-conspiracy thrillers, and then there’s Dennis Kelly’s extraordinary, sui generis show about a bootleg graphic novel that may contain hidden clues about a government plan too nefarious to mention. But over its three seasons on Syfy - and, thanks to an aggressive fan campaign, at its new home on Amazon - the series has wonderfully, er, “expanded” its scope and taken on a political resonance regarding the machinations of those in power and the people impacted by these interstellar policy decisions. Corey’s novels started out with a pinch of Blade Runner here and a sprinkle of BSG there. The small-screen adaptation of James S.A. Meanwhile, a police detective named Josephus Miller (Thomas Jane) becomes obsessed with a missing girl named Julie Mao, who may be the key to understanding an escalating cosmic Cold War. A distress signal leads to the mysterious destruction of a ship, stranding Captain Jim Holden (Steven Strait) and his ragtag crew in deep space. Two centuries from now, tensions have arisen between our planet and a colonized Mars a ring of blue-collar space stations called “The Belt” houses the solar system’s lowest social class. So what better time to count down the 50 best sci-fi TV shows of all time? From anime classics to outer-space soap operas, spooky British anthology shows to worst-case-scenario postapocalyptic dramas, primetime pop hits to obscure but beloved cult classics, here are our choices for the best the television genre has to offer - submitted, for your approval. Science fiction has been around in one form or another since the early-ish days of television, both here and abroad, and its legacy now looms larger than ever. You can’t turn on your TV/Roku/cut-cord viewing device without bumping into spaceships, alien invasion and wonky sci-fi food-for-thought. Today, there’s an entire cable network devoted to this kind of programming. But given the number of top-notch shows set in the far reaches of the galaxy and that used genre for pulpy and profound purposes over the last 30 or so years, it seems crazy to think that one of the most groundbreaking SF series was a network pariah and a ratings dud. Yes, a concept like Star Trek was both of its time and clearly ahead of it history has more than vindicated Gene Rodenberry’s notion of boldly going where no man had gone before. It’s odd to think that, once upon a time, a TV show set in space - one that declared, in its opening narration, as the cosmos being the “final frontier” - was considered the pop-cultural equivalent of an unwanted party-crasher.

The Lore will now have its own section in the game where you can easily refer back to them as you please. It also isn’t a requirement to read as it sits on the side ready to access whenever you feel like reading.īeen playing Melvor for about 1-2weeks, its a solid 3/5 Idle game, maybe 3.5 if i'm generous. It IS NOT 5/5, it doesn't deserve glowing reviews like i've been reading. I have 5-7years years worth of idle incremental experience under my belt and Melvor just doesn't seem to hit the good dopamine spots that give you the sense of meaningful progression. Progression itself, like with all idle games, the start is fast, but then it tremendously slows down. My key issue is how leveling 'everything' is intertwined with something else. To improve combat rating (after the tutorial) you need to grind fishing to have mats to make food, then you have to grind cooking to make said food, then you can actually grind to improve your atk/def/str stats. all individually so one at a time, to equal-ish levels which takes hours for each. When it comes to gearing you have lots options bronze/iron/steel/mithril/adamantites etc but honestly they don't matter, they provide very insignificant improvements, and if you want to upgrade the gear to +1 or 2, then you need to buy Mining and Smithing which aren't cheap to purchase. There is no easy way to grind money asap because you can't level anything past your combat level so you are forced to stop cooking or whatever then grind atk/def/str for hours until you run out of food, then go back to fishing or farming cows which isn't efficient unless you have an autoclicker looting everything overnight otherwise you have to manually loot the cows. Even if you collect 100 loot drops at a time which might take 30mins, you need several/tens of 100 loot drops to actually make any meaningful gold income. There are other options and play styles yes, but as a new player its all pretty garbage and needs reworking.Īs idle games go, Melvor does provide a different type of game experience. It's clean and doesn't consume much PC power to run but the gameplay is extremely mundane. Would I recommend this game, no i wouldn't, unless you're a runescape fanboi or really want to try something different. I would recommend other Idle games such as NGU, ClickerHeroes #1, Crusaders of Lost Idols, a handful of mobile idle games. New Temporary Custom GamemodeSay hello to Internal Suffering Speedrun Mode!Īvailable until: August 31 23: 59:59 GMT Melvor is not bad, but its not good either. We took the concept of the previous Hardcore Adventure Speedrun Mode and turned it up to 11. This photo editor has many different modules, which can pose difficulties for some users. If you’re on a budget and know a bit about computers, a second-hand machine is a possibility. See SSD’s some tips and Compare your SSD with an endurance test Better external connections like USB 3 or USB C plus HDMI (to connect to a TV) are common now. New computers have faster CPU, memory and notably hard drives (especially SSD). Not just to replace Windows 7 but also to the better speed and features on newer computers. Overall, getting a replacement computer is the best option. Microsoft itself recommends Windows 10 (big surprise) with a new computer. They offer all manner of ‘help’ and ‘checklists’, all designed to boost sales. There are many retailers and companies who are happy to use this deadline to sell either Windows 10 or a new computer. There’s time both before and after the deadline to make a considered choice. What to do with Windows 7 machines?įor individuals, families and small businesses with Windows 7 machines, the important thing is not to rush into anything. Windows 8 isn’t used much because Microsoft pushed the free updates to Windows 10. Only Office 2019 for Windows is specifically Windows 10 only. Windows 7 will work with Microsoft Office 2016 and earlier versions of Office.Įven the latest Office 365 for Windows works with Windows 7. You’ll find many virtual machines (Hyper/V and VMWare Workstation) using Windows 7 because of those compatibility advantages. By modern standards, Win7 needs relatively slow CPU, little memory and disk space. Windows 7 is still popular because it’s a stable operating system that runs on a wide range of hardware. Custom Support Agreements aren’t available to most businesses, let alone individuals. Some organizations have or will do a similar thing with Windows 7 because it costs less to pay for special patches than fully upgrade older equipment. Some Windows XP setups kept getting security patches for several years after its official support ended in 2014 because of a special agreement. Microsoft doesn’t like to talk about CSA’s but they are known to exist for very large customers. Some very large organizations, even governments, might arrange a Custom Support Agreement with Microsoft to get a private supply of security patches. IT managers should know about this and take any necessary action. Some Windows 7 machines will still get security patches for three more years.Īny organizations running Office 365 ProPlus or Office 365 Business on Windows 7 SP1 devices will receive Win7 security-only updates through January 2023. Maybe sometime in the first half of 2020? Office 365 exception for continued Win7 updates. We suggest moving from Windows 7 but when you and your budget is ready. Hackers will target these older and unpatched machines just like they already go for older versions of Microsoft Office. The risk of virus infection from an unpatched bug is low but increases over time as the list of known and unfixed vulnerabilities grows. Some other large organizations might contract with Microsoft to continue supplying security patches. Windows 7 running with Office 365 ProPlus will continue to get security updates, see below. This applies to all types of Windows 7, Starter, Home Basic, Home Premium, Professional, Enterprise, Ultimate, K, N and VL etc. On 14 January 2020 even those security fixes will stop. These patches fix the seemingly never-ending list of security bugs in their products which can be exploited by criminals, government agencies and other hackers. Since then Microsoft has only been releasing security updates. ‘Mainstream’ support for Windows 7 ended back in 2015. Like all Microsoft software, Windows 7 is reaching the end of its extended support life.Īfter 14 January 2020, Windows 7 won’t get security patches for newly discovered viruses or bugs. Even in late 2019, around 27% of Windows use was on Windows 7 (the younger but unloved Windows 8 is a lowly 5% while Win10 is used by 64%) What’s happening to Windows 7? The end of Win7 support affects many people and businesses. Here’s what’s happening, what to do, what not to do and the way some Office 365 users can still use Win7 with Microsoft support. Time is running out before the end of support for Windows 7. Here’s a look at some UK universities’ IB score requirements for their most competitive courses: University of Cambridge: Most universities will not only consider your overall IB DP score but also your grades in specific HL subjects.įor example, to apply for English Language and Literature at Christchurch College, University of Oxford, an applicant needs a total DP grade of 38 points and at least a six in three HL subjects. The table shows IB scores from Crimson students who got into top US universities. However, given the competitiveness of admissions (UCLA receives the most applications of any university in the US), most admitted students typically score 38+ points. The University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), expects students to achieve a score of at least five in each HL subject. If your score is any lower than 36, the rest of your application must be exceptional to compensate for a score on the lower end. If you’re aiming for the Ivies, you certainly don’t want to be dipping below the 36 mark. If you want to apply to the Ivy League and more selective colleges, you’ll need a healthy mix of sixes and sevens (no less than six) in your subjects for a shot at admission.Ī score in the 40s will make you a more competitive candidate academically (note: a lot of non-academic factors are at play), but a 38+ is considered a good IB score. Universities don’t release specified IB Diploma Program cut-off scores in the US. What IB Scores Do I Need To Get Into A Top University? US Universities IB students may have an advantage when they apply to US universities. Students who take them could have an advantage when applying for university in the UK. The A-Levels align more with the UK education system. Everything you need to know about the AS, A2 and A Levels. The A-Levels focus on depth of knowledge, as opposed to breadth. However, taking the A-Levels can help increase your chances of gaining admission to Oxbridge and other top UK universities. The IB does not hinder your application. US and UK universities understand it takes blood, sweat and tears to complete the IB DP, and they have massive respect for IB students! It just doesn't necessarily add value in the same way as it does in the US. You could mention the time you won a creative writing competition, an online writing course you completed, and the blog you run! Since you'll be studying English to the utmost degree at the university level, you'll need to prove that you have a genuine interest in the field and can bring this passion to your studies. You can still talk about activities outside the classroom, but they should be English-related. If you apply for an English degree, admissions officers will look for evidence of your knowledge in this subject area. UK universities like to see that you're involved in activities related to what you want to study. The US encourages diversity, experimentation, and breadth of study, and the UK encourages specialization and focus on a particular subject. Colleges in the US and UK have very different ideas of education. While the IB is also highly regarded by UK universities, they don't value it quite the same way. Will The IB Increase Your Chances of Getting into a UK University? Strong IB performance can also benefit you when you fill out university scholarship and financial aid assessments. As a policy, DP recipients will earn a minimum of 30 credit hours and up to 45 credit hours of advanced credit. State university system (UC Berkeley, UCLA, etc.) - Generous when it comes to the IB.New York University - Typically awards eight hours of course credits for each HL subject in which you've scored at least a six.Stanford University - Specified HL IB exams with scores of five or higher in the subjects listed here are eligible for credit. University of Pennsylvania - A score of six in most "higher level" (HL) IB subjects will earn you some credits towards your degree. Most of the top US colleges will even give you credits for your Diploma Program subjects if you get over a particular score. If you had the US in mind for university, consider the IB. Regardless, completing the DP definitely won't hurt your chances of admission. But, their IB education indicates they are stronger candidates because they took the IB. IB students aren't necessarily given preference over non-IB students in the university selection process. The gap is even more significant for top-ranked universities outside the Ivy League. An IBO survey showed that the acceptance rate of IB students into Ivy League universities is up to 18% higher than the total population acceptance rate. Universities tend to admit IB students at a higher rate than their non-IB counterparts. The IB Diploma Program is well-known in the US and unofficially accepted as a "college standard" curriculum. Will The IB Increase Your Chances of Getting into a US University? Make sure you have a drain bucket below to catch the oil. Sometimes it's a 15-millimeter wrench, then take the drain plug out. I'm gonna drain the oil, use a 13-millimeter wrench. There's three on this side and three on the other side. Now I'm gonna remove the bolts for the water pump. Loosen it up all the way around, just to make sure the coolant's strained at this point and take these hoses off as well the same way. If it doesn't come off like that, you can take a pic tool and just slide it in between the hose and the water pump. We can move the hose clamp up the hose a little bit, just like that, and try to twist the hose a little bit. Just remove this hose from this bracket and this bracket and then use a hose clamp tool. Now we're going to start taking the hoses off the water pump. Use a 15-millimeter socket, and there's three bolts. You could take a picture of the belt before you take it off. Then loosen the tension on the tensioner, and you can take the belt off completely. So put that on, loosen this up, slide the belt off the idler arm right here. This tensioner actually uses a 14-millimeter. Normally the adapter, you're going to use a 15-millimeter wrench or a serpentine belt tool that has the 15-millimeter adapter. There's a little lock tab on here, slide that back and then push down on the terminal lock right there, and grab the airbox, pull it straight up, and wiggle it out, there's the tabs that hold it down. Now slide this snorkel off there and then off the throttle body and slide it up. This one's broken, but if yours is there, just use a screwdriver or a trim tool and remove that, and loosen up these worm clamps with the 8-millimeter socket, or a straight blade screwdriver, and also this one over here. There is a bracket right here that attaches to the upper radiator hose. I'm gonna remove this cover, use an 8-millimeter socket, loosen up this bolt. You don't want to do this with hot coolant. And one thing I forgot to mention make sure you do this while the engine's cool. Once you get this started, you might want to lower the vehicle. You can use a straight blade screwdriver. It's gonna use a pry bar just to pry it out a little. Just be careful, you don't wanna splash too much coolant on you. Just try to twist the hose back and forth. Make sure you have a drain bucket underneath. And slide the hose clamp tool over the clamp. And slide that out of the way, now I can access the clamp. So we're gonna have to take off that hose, just gonna use a hose clamp tool. You don't have to remove the tire to access the lower radiator hose, but we took it off so you can see. Start by disconnecting the battery, disconnect the negative terminal, use an 8-millimeter wrench. You just push it as far under the rug as you can. “Most of the time, it serves everybody to push everything down. was what looks best for the church,” Lentz says. “Typically, the way that Hillsong has handled scandal. Lentz is also critical of Hillsong’s leadership, particularly that of founder Brian Houston, a former friend and mentor, who is now in the midst of a trial in Australia, where he is accused of failing to report child sexual abuse by his father, Frank Houston, a preacher who died in 2004 and whose Pentecostal church there was a precursor to Hillsong. There were mutual decisions made by two people who lied profusely, mainly to my wife.” “Any notion of abuse is categorically false. “I am responsible for allowing an inappropriate relationship to develop in my house with someone that worked for us,” he says. Lentz also admits an inappropriate relationship with Kimes, who was co-pastor of Hillsong in Boston, in addition to being the family’s nanny, but insists that it was consensual. What I’ve done is my fault, but where that thing started, I have no control over. In the process, Lentz turned into a star himself, a “ hypepriest” to the rich and famous who was interviewed by Oprah Winfrey and profiled in major magazines.Īs a white Evangelical who lived in the Williamsburg neighborhood of Brooklyn, and wasn’t afraid to say Black lives matter - even on “The 700 Club” - he seemed to represent a new, more progressive strain of Christianity, even as he skillfully dodged questions about the church’s stance on LGBTQ+ issues and did little to increase diversity in the organization’s leadership. Known for his designer skinny jeans, plunging V-neck shirts and wildly charismatic sermons, Lentz attracted numerous celebrities to his flock and in 2014, famously baptized Justin Bieber in a bathtub belonging to NBA player Tyson Chandler. Over the following decade, the church became a sensation, drawing thousands of diverse, young congregants every Sunday to services at Irving Plaza in Manhattan. The pastor had founded the New York City outpost of Hillsong, a Pentecostal megachurch with roots in Australia, in 2010. Just a few years ago, Carl Lentz was on top of the world.
